How much does it cost to build a pier?
The cost to build a pier varies somewhat depending on your geographical
location. The baseline price for a river or creek-front pier is $25/square
foot. Bay front piers however are somewhat more expensive because the
conditions are more difficult to work in. Each pier really requires an
individualized on-site assessment to make an accurate proposal. To set up

Yes, all marine construction projects require a permit from the Maryland
Department of the Environment as well as a building permit from your local
jurisdiction.
How do I get a permit and how long does it take?
Marine construction projects require permits from the Maryland Department
of the Environment as well as a building permit from your local county
jurisdiction. You can submit all of the paperwork and drawings yourself by
going to the
MDE website by clicking here. Or you can leave all of the
paperwork to us. Yellow Dog Marine will handle all of the site visits,
detailed computer drawings, as well as filling out all of the necessary
applications before sending them on to the state for approval. Once we
have your permit secured, we will call you to begin the work. The entire
process can take anywhere from 2-6 months.
I want to re-deck my pier. Should I use wood or
the new composite material I’ve been hearing so much about?
Traditional wood is still the most popular choice for most of our clients.
It is all natural and cost effective. But if you don’t want to worry about
maintaining the wood or having it warp or fade, composite decking might be
a good idea for you. It does however cost about four times as much as
wood. But over the course of a lifetime, you will never have to replace it
or stain it, thus saving you money in the long run.
I’d like to freshen up my pier but I’m not sure I
can afford it. Is there any other option to beautify my pier?
